  • This project proposes a small-group ministry to persons suffering chronic pain, testing it in six sessions with four members of Trinity Episcopal Church (Shepherdstown, W Va) conducted over a two-week period. In this prayerful community of fellow sufferers participants study selected passages of Scripture, share one another's spiritual journeys, and examine passages from Christian writers who reflect spiritually and theologically on issues of pain. As they discover a safe and supportive community participants express a new ability to speak of their experience of pain in spiritual as well as medical terms, addressing the meaning of pain and the presence of God in pain.
