Abstracto

The purpose of this project was to assist parish pastors in their ministry to bipolar parishioners and their families. A selective review of relevant literature dealing with medical, psychological, and theological facets of the disorder was conducted, and a case study was discussed. Person-centered therapy supplemented by techniques which were congruent and appropriate from other modalities was indicated in treatment. Parish pastors were given information to help them make an initial diagnostic assessment, complete a psychiatric referral, and assist the bipolar parishioner and family by means of the pastoral care functions of healing, guiding, and reconciling.
