Abstract
  • This project studies the pastor's role as family counselor. It uses case studies to demonstrate the role-specific pitfalls which pastors experience that contrast with their inherent therapeutic potential. It presents the major perspectives of family systems theory with appropriate procedures, techniques and case reports. The author concludes that an integrated theoretical and procedural structure for counseling, which includes pastoral theology and family systems theory, can enable pastors to maximize their inherent therapeutic potential and minimize the likelihood of becoming 'wounded helpers'.
