Abstract
  • The thesis suggests that the Sydney Anglican Church has been moving away from a history of involvement with the community into a model of church life which separates itself from the community. The dissertation examines relevant literature in three areas: urbanization and its relationship to the Sydney Anglican Church, the history of the Sydney Anglican Church, and the development of a congregational theology of church in Sydney Anglicanism. Case studies of four Sydney Anglican churches test the findings of the literature. The conclusion broadly supports the thesis and points to possible corrective strategies.
