  • The objective of this study was to determine what was causing an African American church to practice their faith at arm's length from God's intent. To address the question, a focus group was engaged to study four disciplines of the faith: meditation, sabbath, commitment, and service, to determine if they would help facilitate a movement toward spiritual wholeness. The findings indicated that there was a lack of awareness of the disciplines, combined with significant life components that vied for their attention. The results indicated that the church bears some fault, but people are making choices to their own spiritual demise.
