  • The hypothesis that there is no relationship between cognitive theological preference and personality type is tested. Three sub-hypotheses relating to sex, age and religiosity also are tested. Data is collected using Dean's MmPI and a Theological Preference Inventory (TPI) developed for this research (reliability: .89). The MmPI results (N'119) are clustered into four personality clusters. In excess of 1400 chi-square analyses are made between the personality clusters and the TPI results with virtually no significant findings (p<.05). The implication is pastoral counselors cannot make personality diagnosis nor can they do therapy based on the client's sex, age or sense of religiosity.
