- Abstract
- The author examined teaching preaching to laypersons in the licensing schools of the United Methodist Church. An analysis was done of the practice in Nebraska from 2000 to 2009. The knowledge and skill sets required by the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry of the United Methodist Church nationally were also analyzed. The current Nebraska practices and the national sets recommended were compared to best practice as seen in entry level seminary preaching courses. The practice in Nebraska and the national knowledge and skill sets were found to be inadequate and an alternative curriculum was designed, taught and critiqued.
