Abstrait

Recovery of a radical, biblical understanding of the nature and purpose of the church is imperative. A study manual was developed as a compendium of ecclesiological research. Organized under the heads Failure, Foundation, Focus, Form and Function, it comprised 30 theses or statements for discussion with supporting material. Bible reference sheets were also developed. The manual was used in a weekend retreat with a small group of church lay leaders. Pre- and post-retreat testing indicated considerable improvement in participants' understanding of the nature and mission of the church. Subsequent participant behavior included on-going, serendipitous results which affected the wider congregation.
