  • This study researched how pastors of growing churches change internally in order for the church to continue its growth. Church growth literature, Scripture, and leadership literature from both the church and the marketplace were surveyed. Thirty-two pastors were interviewed who have pastored churches that grew from 150 to over eight hundred. Major conclusions included (1) the issue of control is the dominant internal change; (2) a pastor's own relationship to God is crucial to the growth and health of the church; (3) lifestyle changes must be made as the congregation grows; and (4) church members and other pastors were the greatest help and the greatest hindrance to the pastor's internal change.
