  • This dissertation project applies the case study methodology in the examination of the social ministry of the Zion Baptist Church. This church developed a social outreach ministry that called for auxilaries of the church to be assigned to a social agency or not-for-profit community outreach to provide stewardship of time, talent, and/or money. The African American tradition of kinship inspired this study. The findings of this case study show that the concept of the church outreach was good, and would be strengthened if undergirded with not only Christian principles, but also the African tradition of kinship.
