- Abstract
- This project sought to educate hospital psychiatric staff towards a clinical understanding of a psychiatric patient's religious experiences. The project involved a six-session, twelve-hour educational seminar. The seminar investigated a clinical definition of religion, the relationship between religion and culture, and religion's relationship with Axis I and Axis II DSM-IIIR diagnoses. It concluded by addressing psychiatric assessment skills in the area of religion. A pretest-posttest failed to demonstrate conclusively that the seminar participants gained a clinical understanding of a psychiatric patient's religious expressions.
