  • The author's thesis is that preaching sermons that utilize the African-American celebrative preaching method can be transformative in a non-black context. This methodology pays particular attention to both the rational and emotional aspects of preaching and utilizes celebration as a culminating dynamic that brings these together and makes the sermon effective. Five sermons were preached using a particular African-American model for both preparation and proclamation that emphasized celebrating the Gospel. Immediate responses were solicited from congregants using a sermon feedback form designed to gauge the emotional impact and effect on behavior the sermon had. The reuslts revealed that this model does translate effectively into a non-black context where particular attention is paid to culturally congruent expressions of celebration. Personal transformation is aided by sermons that address the whole personality in a culturally sensitive manner.
