Short-term mission experiences effectively awaken college students to the needs of the world, while providing an experiential understanding of the church from the vantage points of community, service, and witness. Research involves responses from questionnaires administered to students who participated in a 1989 mission experience, and from questionnaires administered to students who participated in mission experience over a four-year period. The research finds students sensed growth in their awareness of world needs, in their desire to serve as year-long missionaries, and in their understanding of what it means to belong to a supportive community.
