  • The thesis of this doctoral project is that the therapeutic factors vital to effective small group psychotherapy offer an effective, inside-oriented approach to implementing the task of mazeway reformulation, the first essential task for restoring congregational health and vitality. Indeed, similarities between small groups and congregations are striking: therapy groups organize around a common purpose and include members with similar needs and interests; therapy groups follow a prescribed plan of treatment; therapy groups are highly relational and dependent upon the therapeutic factors to conduct its work; and therapy groups can be a powerful source of restored personal health and vitality.
