Combining the disciplines of psychology and theology, the project evolved from the question: 'How can the healing that occurs through empathy in depth psychology be applied in and with a church congregation?' The premise is that empathy, as presented by the psychoanalytic school of self-psychology is a caring and compassionate way for a pastor to be in relationship with his or her ministry setting and models the essence of the gospel message. Further, the conscious use of empathy can be tautht to those in ministry by means of small workshops combining experience with theory. the project proved empathy is a compassionate way to minister and a method that most people can learn, if they have a sense of self and are able to do introspection.
