  • The purpose of this dissertation is to speak to some of the primary theological and psychological influences upon pastoral care. Schleiermacher, Barth, Bultmann, Tillich and Moltmann are considered as most important from theological literature. Freud, Jung, Frankl, Maslow, Rogers and May are the psychologists discussed. A case presentation is utilized to allow an interpretation of theological and psychological constructs. Specific conclusions and implications are drawn for pastoral care, theological education, church ministry and lay application. The basic constructs and conclusions of the work were presented to four different pastoral care audiences and the feedback from the participants is presented.
