  • Is preaching the reserved domain of the ordained? Can lay voices speak a word from the Word? The thesis tests a model for hearing lay voices as preachers during the sermon time. The model is communal and arises from ancient lectio divina and modern theories of calling a circle. The model was tested and evaluated in a small, urban congregation. Participants were moved, and tended to view the model as preaching with one another. A design is offered to take the model into congregations of any size or sanctuary architecture.
