  • Genograms are a useful tool to learn alternative skills in a church parenting group. This study tests the hypotheses that parenting groups increase family satisfaction, and secondly, when compared to other methods of teaching, genograms are more helpful. Ten parents were measured for family satisfaction before and after the group. Participants ranked the helpfulness of genograms in comparison to other methods. Results showed that the group using genograms improved family satisfaction. Secondly, participants reported that genograms were only moderately helpful in comparison to other aspects of the class. The author notes the negative impact of time constraints on the study.
