The purpose of the project was to develop a training program to establish a supportive counseling ministry through motivated deacons that would be acceptable to members of Sherwood Baptist Church (Hunstville, Ala). The purpose was accomplished by communicating the results of the study of the biblical basis for deacon ministry and the best methods for equipping counselors. Positive attitudinal changes were affected in deacons and church members toward supportive counseling. Also, deacons gained knowledge from instructional sessions although they were reluctant to use their knowledge to minister to church members.
