This project considers autonomy and heteronomy ('revelation') as a dialectical tension in the life of adolescents. It describes and evaluates the rise, development, and purpose of confirmation in Reform Judaism. It surveys revelation as a category of Jewish religious thought. It discusses autonomy in theories of human development (especially that of Murray Bowen) and as a modern religious category.
