  • The peer support program was designed to provide mentors who could aid clergy in their self-care needs. The program was sponsored by the Northern Wisconsin District of the former American Lutheran Church. The thesis was a response to two questions: who ministers to our clergy? where does the caregiver go to receive care? The Mentor Project had four design facets: a mentor who was available to clergy; spiritual retreats; colleague groups; and fellowship groups. The key to this project was the provision of mentors. The pilot Mentor Project was a proven program which met the self-care needs of clergy participants. Outcome evaluation instruments were used to measure the accomplishment of program goals and program effectiveness.
