- Abstract
- This research analyzes the lives of missionaries serving in high-risk locales. These environments hold hardships which can cause physical, psychological, spiritual, and/or ministry stresses. Mission agencies need to provide more effective pastoral care to mitigate early attrition from high-risk fields. Qualitative methodology was used to study the expectations, stressors, coping attitudes and behaviors, and member care services received by workers. The joy and fruit of ministry far outweighed the costs and risks of service for these servants. They are coping, surviving, and thriving through the care of God the Father, through self-care, and through their organizations' member care resources.
