  • Utilizing data gathered from people with cancer and their families, professional literature relating to cancer care, workshops sponsored by the American Cancer Society, and collegial feedback, a guide for parish clergy in caring for people with cancer was written. A multi-dimensional role of theologian, learner, counselor, spiritual diagnostician, priest, referral agent, congregational leader, ethical advisor, prophet and friend is utilized to describe the pastor's care-giving task in relationship to people with cancer. The theological issues of disease, God's will, suffering, healing, miracles and faith, as they relate to cancer care, are also explored.
