This paper is designed to help churches and pastors who are considering the process of mothering daughter churches in the context of suburban America who are struggling with reluctance whether to mother a daughter church. This is also a study in encouraging possible future planting pastors and lay people who are struggling with reluctance whether to leave the safety of a mother church and listen for the call to be part of a birthed daughter church. The purpose of this study is to examine how mother churches overcome their reluctance in planting daughter churches in the suburban context. My research questions that will guide me will be: 1. What are the characteristics of the reluctance on the part of a mother church in planting a daughter church? 2. How were those issues addressed in those churches? 3. How effective were they in addressing the nature of that reluctance?
