- This project explores the history and the possibilities of the Protestant ministry. It focuses on the problems and possibilities for ministers who share ministry with the same congregation. From Phyllis Trible's God and the Rhetoric of Sexuality the author takes the definition of feminism as a critique of culture in light of misogyny. This definition provides the starting point for her critique of ministry. From Elisabeth Schuessler Fiorenza's book In Memory of Her she learns the ways of feminist hermeneutics which serve as a critical tool for viewing the development of the church and ministry and as a constructive tool for seeing and creating new possibilities in ministry. Shared ministry, the possibility which the author envisions, applies a feminist hermeneutics to the life of the church. In the process of moving from criticism to creativity this project addresses four topics: development of ministry in the early church and survival in Roman patriarchal society; impact on ministry of accommodation to patriarchy into the 20th century; vision of shared ministry; and a proposal for a workshop to help ministers explore shared ministry.
