Emerging national awareness of labyrinths in various settings to placement of a Chartres style labyrinth for fellowship, spirituality and outreach at The Congregational Church of West Medford, Massachusetts (UCC). Demographic and congregational studies (including census data, system inventories, history, and world view of theology) determined suitability for the church's context and identity. After congregational approval and placement, the minister gathered a support group to plan workshops, Lenten walks, and to evaluate use. The labyrinth is effective for personal devotions, meditation, and prayer; for fellowship gatherings, cancer support groups, retreats; for community outreach; and for Lent and Advent services.
