  • Throughout history there have been traumatic events that have affected people, and the ministries of the church have addressed these events at the individual and community levels. This project used case study, historical data, and pastoral and liturgical material from ministry settings following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center towers in New York City, Washington, D.C. and Shanksville, Pennsylvania. The project used a subjective analysis of interviews of professionals and their families who participated in United Methodist churches in New Castle, Indiana, Park City, Utah and Evergreen, Colorado. These three congregations included people with a wide range of faith traditions and backgrounds.
