  • The purpose of this practicum and project was two-fold: 1) to determine whether or not a declining inner-city church could do evangelism within its own parish, while its primary motive for outreach was institutional survival, and 2) to determine how effective small share groups could be in doing evangelism in this setting. The student worked in an inner-city church for two years during which three faith-sharing groups were established. Through repeated development of such groups, this method proved to be very effective in communicating the essentials of the gospel. Such a method of outreach must be conducted by a local congregation whose priority to evangelism is motivated by the evangel itself. A church that is primarily concerned about its own existence will not be able to fulfill its evangelistic task.
