  • This study set out to explore whether Christopher Schooley's observation that hospitalized children moved from finitude to grandiosity during their hospitalization could be duplicated when children were asked to tell the chaplain a 'God story.' The basic procedure of Robert Gardner's mutual storytelling was used to elicit the children's responses. Eight children between the ages of eight and twelve were interviewed and the sample was taken from the pediatric ward at Lawrence General Hospital, Lawrence, Massachusetts. Specific God themes were found in the children's stories, but Schooley's observations were not duplicated.
