- Abstract
- This thesis-project is an analysis of Andrew Murray's integration of the revival and world mission of the church, as evidenced throughout his career as a leader of the Dutch Reformed Church in South Africa during the second half of the 19th century and beginning portion of the 20th. It is written from the perspective that this integration was seen by Murray as consistent with the divine pattern, and that it is the key to understanding the essence of the man and his ministry. The work begins with a brief biographical sketch of Murray's life and career, followed by a survey of the biblical-theological foundation on which his commitment to keeping the two truths of revival and missions together was built. The project then explores Murray's understanding of the church's unhealthy condition, along with his description of what was necessary for her to be restored to health. The work concludes with an analysis of six foundational principles in Murray's life that contributed to his own spiritual health and the resulting ability to work for the church's health for so many years.
