  • How can pastors minister to individuals and congregations who are narcissistically oriented? first and foremost, the pastor must be aware of his or her psychic development particularly in the area of narcissism. A pastor should be in constant dialogue with his or her own narcissism. Secondly, a pastor needs to feel compassion for the inflicted individual or congregation. Also a pastor needs to feel empathy towards the narcissistic individual or congregation. Even with constant monitoring and fine tuning, confrontation will cause narcissistic injury followed by anger and rage. It is during these times that the pastor must exercise the deepest compassion, the strongest love, and the fullest empathy.
