- Abstract
- During the time that the author served as a consultant for church growth, he became aware of a number of dynamics that were shared by churches experiencing similar statistical trends. Churches that were declining appeared to have similar program and ministry dynamics. Likewise, churches that were growing numerically seemed to share administrative and programmatic traits. Desiring to maintain a balance between the church's call to evangelism and its need to nurture and care for its members, the author established a model of consultation that would assist congregations to consider what their call to ministry might be at that time in history. This project-thesis is the test of the effectiveness of the model. Results have been very positive. The information about the nature of Christian ministry and the permission given to churches to choose their course of ministry appear to be strengths of the model. Its one 'weakness' was that it may take longer to get churches to change their direction in ministry than anticipated.
