- This research reveals a pastoral counseling model in communion with the Trinity. Two major research questions motivate this study: Is it appropriate for pastoral staff to use general psychological theories and techniques to conduct counseling? Should the trinitarian perspective be the guiding hand in counseling the victims of a disaster? The author used the Taiwanese earthquake of September 21, 1999 as a research setting and conducted in-depth interviews with pastoral counselors and victims in six disaster areas in Taiwan. The study shows that the most essential spiritual power behind the pastoral counseling of the victims was communion with the Trinity. Such fellowship is also the essential factor in the salvation plan of the Triune God. Through professional psychology, Christianity and secular resources can come together.
