Abstracto

The author asks: Does faith help military personnel cope with the traumas of war? She studies the history of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, its causes and symptoms. She interviews World War II Navy veterans of the USS Oklahoma City to better understand the trauma they endured and to learn about the faith lives of these men. The author also interviews military chaplains and two military personnel who have recently returned from the War in Iraq in order to bring this study into the present. The author concludes this project by offering ways in which clergy and church members can better prepare parishioners for trauma and serve parishioners once trauma has occurred.
