  • This is a systemic study of how ethnicity functions as a dominate factor in establishing a family's sense of self. Ethnicity is at the core of family functioning, structure, rules, roles, patterns, boundaries, mannerisms, issues, beliefs, and traditions; and that context is the definitive reality in which an individual's, family's and the community's understanding of itself is created, maintained or changed. The purpose of this project is to create a working model that will enable the helping professional become absorbed in the energy and relational forces that give ethnic families a distinctive quality of life and relationships. While applicable to all ethnic communities, the model is developed by studying one community in particular, that being the Armenian-American.
