Abstract
  • This project proposes that a long-tenured pastorate is effective and beneficial for personal and congregational ministry. Drawing on biblical studies, church history, and current literature in pastoral theology and the social sciences, the project develops a theology of ministry confronting issues of pastoral tenure. Effective, long-tenured ministry must address pastoral evaluation and education, pastoral spiritual growth, congregational leadership development, meaningful lay participation in ministry and positive conflict management, and long-range goal setting and celebration.
