  • Through a carefully designed educational program, the ninth and tenth graders of the First Congregational Church of Litchfield were trained as peer counselors in the field of alcohol abuse prevention. Although plans to develop a formal and on-going peer counseling support system failed, the young people responded well to the opportunity to share their own experiences with beverage alcohol. Extensive research, coupled with a thorough evaluation of the program confirmed the assumption that the higher one's self-esteem, the lower is one's tendency to abuse alcohol.
