- This exploratory study was designed to discover the perception of the placement process held by women who were candidates for ministry in the Presbyterian Church (USA). Respondents to a written questionnaire participated in the placement process at Union Theological Seminary in Virginia between 1991 and 1994. Results indicate that most of the women experienced pain or discriminatory practices during their search for permanent placement. Parameters placed on the search process negatively affected the candidate's ability to find placement, and also their perception of the process. Certain gender-related stereotypes were perceived to limit placement opportunities for many respondents.
