Abstract
  • This project reviews ten workshops designed to train caregivers of the elderly population in a psychiatric nursing home. Working with ill, aging and dying persons can be stressful. Caregivers often face personal and professional losses while in a caregiving environment. The need for support through grief education is essential for new and experienced caregivers alike. Training is most helpful when the caregiver is able to talk about personal feelings, beliefs and experiences; learn about phases of bereavement and grief responses; and apply these insights in typical caregiving situations. Clergy can be helpful resources in the grief education and recovery process.
