  • This project proposes to bridge isolation among African American Christian women in small congregations who live in higly transient areas away from family support systems, testing the design with women members of First African Methodist Episcopal Church (Alexandria, Va). In guided, intentional interaction and sharing of educational, worship, reflective, and fellowship experiences, culminating in a quilting project, these women form small groups as kinship units to build relationships. In these groups trusting relationships are developed and strengthened.
