Abstract
  • The purpose of this project was to equip the active deacons of Holiday Hill Baptist Church, Jacksonville, Florida, to minister to church families using deacon ministry teams. The training model consisted of eight sessions of one hour to one and one-half hours in length. The first five sessions were part of a one-day retreat. The three remaining sessions were conducted in single sessions over the next two months. The sessions focused on the scriptural basis of deacon ministry, the role of deacon as minister, the use of spiritual gifts in deacon ministry, and the formulation of deacon ministry teams. The project goals were to research the skills needed to minister using deacon ministry skills, to develop a program for equipping deacons to minister using deacon ministry teams, and to equip the deacons to minister using deacon ministry teams. The professional goals were to increase the project director's knowledge in how to equip deacons to use deacon ministry teams and to increase the project director's skill in developing curriculum.
