Abstract
  • How can men of a church work with a public school to provide mentoring to provide character and leadership development in ways that reflect the teachings of Jesus, without proselytizing? Laws seperating church and state will not allow mentors to evangelize on school grounds. The school selected 10 boys that would benefit from a mentoring relationship and the church provided the mentors. One on one meetings, group sessions and field trips were used to teach character and leadership traits. After 5 months an informal survey of the teachers indicated that in almost all cases the boys seemed more confident in class.
