In the 1930's a revival broke out in China and the Chinese churches in Southeast Asia. Dr. John Sung spoke to the Chinese people in various meetings and many turned to the Lord. While preaching, Dr. Sung would often spontaneously interrupt the preaching to lead the congregation in hymnal choruses. The singing plus his message led many people to the Lord. In the 1990's, the Chinese churches in China increased rapidly and many people were spiritually revived and came to know the Lord. One of the reasons why the number of Christians has grown in China has been because of how God has used a young village girl, Xiao Min, to write hundreds of worship hymns by the moving of the Holy Spirit and many were moved by the hymnal singing. This thesis is a study of the relationship between spiritual revival and the singing of worship songs by using the Canaan hymns in Chinese churches as a central case study.
