- Abstract
- This study was conducted by interviewing prisoners, staff and chaplains in a New South Wales, Australia, prison. The purpose was to discover the religious needs of inmates and staff. A taxonomy of need was used to identify and compare the levels of need. A model was constructed which gives three areas of response (advocate, educator and minister) and then further describes these functions. There are chapters on the history of the NSW chaplaincy service, a survey of relevant literature on the role of the chaplain and discussions on relevant theological and social views of crime, punishment and sin.
