Abstracto

This project enhances the effectiveness of confirmation instruction for early adolescents by providing an education component for their parents. The hypothesis was: Effective incorporation and nurture of early adolescents in the Christian initiation process, particularly through preparation for Confirmation, is dependent upon a structured and active involvement on the part of the parents and godparents/sponsors in the faith community of the local parish. A confirmation program was designed for 6th-graders and their parents. Two tracks, one for the 6th-graders and one for the parents, ran concurrently during an eight-month period. A significant number of parents indicated an increased understanding of the 'sacramental life of the church' through the content of this course, a new and different kind of bond with their children and a deeper appreciation for parish community.
