  • This project proposes that the redefining of identity and vision can increase energy for mission in congregations whose contexts are characterized by change, diversity and ambiguity. The research discloses that when the salient characteristic of a congregation is ambiguity, a focus on identity and vision has the potential to increase energy for mission in the congregation more than an emphasis on programs or congregational health. The theological principle undergirding this study maintains that when God calls people, they are given a new identity and a vision that energizes them for mission.
