  • This study developed and observed student volunteerism at Boston University and defined how mission may be practiced by the local church. A community service model was developed to help promote student volunteering, blood drives, and mission by the local church. A pilot study using the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory showed: 1) levels of anxiety decrease following a blood donation, and 2) the number of previous blood donations decreases the levels of anxiety. An analogy drawn between the blood donor table and the Table of the Lord demonstrated parallels. The community service model in the church is the body of Christ, as the church and the secular dynamic go together with organized service and mission shepherded by the pastor.
