  • Jesus demonstrates how acts of compassionate listening can bring about healing and transformation. In Jesus' compassionate listening, people experience God's presence and love. This project proposes that the church is called to embody that kind of listening in its life and ministry. The project examines how one church successfully designed and implemented a ministry of listening that acknowledges cultural realities and is grounded in a theology of pastoral care. This ministry integrates new members into the life of the congregation and keeps longtime members connected to pastoral care. It is an especially effective way to involve laypersons in pastoral ministry.
