Abstract
  • The thesis of this project is that contemplative prayer as described in Catholic theological writings is able to be attained and maintained by all persons regardless of personality and-or vocation. A complex statistical study involving the chi square was used to determine the accuracy of the thesis. A testing procedure employing the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory and the Spiritual Orientation Profile was administered to 100 lay people and 100 clergy persons and the personalities and prayer lives were examined. The results clearly indicated that the author's thesis was true; therefore, null hypothesis was accepted: that there is no difference between personality and-or vocation and the capacity to attain a high level of prayer.
