  • The Jewish religion contains a rich resource of traditions which promote spiritual healing. Due to the proliferation and dominance of scientific medical models, most of these spiritual healing traditions have been either forgotten or ignored. The project thesis will seek to identify and model both traditional and newly-innovative Jewish religious practices which can be accessible to a rabbi who wishes to promote spiritual healing in a synagogue setting. These religious practices can help provide members of a synagogue community with -- healing, if not a cure; care, if not treatment; attention to the illness, if not to the disease, a sense of blessing, shalom, and holiness of spirit, even when facing life's most difficult and serious challenges.
